Kirby Sattler produces a limited number of American Indian paintings each year. Although he is not Native American, he is
meticulous about creating a true-to-life depiction of the clothing, artifacts and cultural traditions of the North Plains Native
Americans and has developed his paintings into a distinctive style of realism and methodology involving the painstaking
layering of multiple under paintings with transparent washes. This technique results in canvases that are rich in defined
textures and surfaces. His current images evolve from the history, ceremony, mythology, and spirituality of the Native
American. Sattler has managed to achieve such effects without much formal art education. Finding work at a friend's ranch,
he spent his nights painting and discovered his calling in life, painting Western Indian Art. Admiring the inter relatedness
Native Americans have with the environment and their reverence for nature and their natural world, the work of Kirby Sattler
is fueled by an inherent interest in the Indigenous Peoples of the Earth.

Their lands taken by westward expansion
of the mid-nineteenth century whites, the
native cultures of North America were
changed irreversibly. With the
destruction of the vast herds of buffalo,
their spirit was broken. The Arapaho
believed that if they danced the "Ghost
Dance" properly, white men would be
swallowed up by the earth. It was one
last desperate attempt to rid themselves
of the white intruders that would allow
the North American Indian again live a
free life and to be reunited with their
ancestors.

"Plein air painters" work in natural light and paint directly from life. Popular since the mid-19th century when paint in tubes
became available and did not have to be mixed by the artist by grinding and mixing dry pigment powders with linseed oil,
making trips into the wilderness to paint less difficult. Bausch became an avid plein air painter, painting outdoors on location

What is Canvas Transfer?
When we speak of "Canvas Transfer," strict standards and scrupulous regard to detail insure maximization of ink bonding and retention, A special
acrylic coating applied by spray or brush captures the ink so as to ingrain it into a high quality artist's canvas. The canvas transfer print now has an
image true to the original painting with a lustrous oil sheen and a lovely canvas texture. The repeating canvas texture reproduces the same
consistency of the original paintings and further technical processes ensure that the colors do not fade, allowing these superb art replicas to last
forever so that you have a genuine investment in our American legacy.
